An Operating System is the basic software that controls a computer system. It takes care of how your hardware operates, the communication with peripheral devices such as a monitor, a printer or a keyboard, the allocation of memory between applications, as well as the prioritization of apps if several run simultaneously. Every program that's installed on a notebook or a desktop works by sending requests to the OS for different services using an application program interface (API). The communication with the OS can be performed via a Graphical User Interface (GUI) or a command line. In the web hosting field, the Operating System is what runs a web hosting server together with all of the software installed on it, which includes not only website scripts, but also every other application such as a VOIP or a game server. In case there're virtual machines created, they employ a guest OS that is run on the server host OS.

Multiple OS in VPS Servers

Our VPS server solutions come with three Linux distributions which you may select from for the Operating System of your new hosting server - Debian, Ubuntu and CentOS. Apart from being absolutely free, the OSs are very stable and protected and the reason to offer you the 3 of them is to ensure that you will be able to run each app that you would like, since different pieces of software have different requirements when it comes to the environment they work on. Each of the three OSs is supported by a vast community of developers who have produced many hundreds of software packages which you can set up and use on your VPS. Depending on the Operating System which you choose, you will also be able to choose between three different Control Panels to handle your website hosting content. Of course, should you decide that you need another OS, we can always reinstall the server with it. As a paid upgrade, we also offer you weekly updates of the OS for optimum stability and security.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers

In case you decide to get one of our dedicated servers, you shall find three Operating Systems on the order page as we want to give you a larger choice regarding the system environment on your server as different apps may have particular requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian contain different modules developed by their large support communities, so you can select any of these OSs and benefit from a reliable and risk-free hosting service. Depending on your selection, you'll also have different Control Panels to choose from. Of course, we can always replace the Operating System in case the one you have selected initially does not meet the requirements of the software that you intend to run. We can also update the OS routinely in order to keep it as secure as possible using our Managed Services upgrade package.
